What is EBITDA?

EBITDA stands for Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization. It is a widely used measure of a company’s core operating profitability because it strips out financing decisions (interest), tax jurisdictions, and non-cash accounting charges (depreciation and amortization), making it easier to compare businesses of different sizes or capital structures.

The formula

EBITDA = Net Income + Interest + Taxes + Depreciation + Amortization. This is the standard “add-back” method starting from the bottom line of the income statement.
