What is EBIT?
Earnings Before Interest and Taxes (EBIT) measures a company’s profit from its core operations, excluding the effects of financing decisions (interest) and tax jurisdictions. It’s closely related to operating income.
The Formula
EBIT = Total Revenue – Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) – Operating Expenses. Equivalently, EBIT = Gross Profit – Operating Expenses. EBIT is widely used in profitability and valuation metrics like EV/EBIT.
