What is a FIRE number?

Your “FIRE number” (Financial Independence, Retire Early) is the size of the investment portfolio you’d need so that a sustainable annual withdrawal covers your living expenses indefinitely, based on a chosen safe withdrawal rate.

How it works

FIRE Number = Annual Expenses / Safe Withdrawal Rate (commonly 4%, following the “4% rule”). The calculator then projects your current savings forward, adding your annual contribution and compounding at your expected return each year, until the balance reaches your FIRE number.

This tool is for general educational and planning purposes only, not investment advice. Actual investment returns vary and are not guaranteed, and withdrawal rate assumptions carry real risk of running out of money in adverse market conditions.
