What This Calculator Does
This tool estimates the dynamic viscosity of liquid water at a chosen temperature using the widely used Vogel (Vogel-Fulcher-Tammann) equation, then converts it to kinematic viscosity using a temperature-dependent density estimate.
The Formula
Dynamic viscosity is calculated as μ = 2.414×10⁻⁵ × 10^(247.8/(T−140)) Pa·s, where T is the absolute temperature in Kelvin. Water density is estimated with the Kell (1975) polynomial, and kinematic viscosity is simply dynamic viscosity divided by density.
Note: This is valid for water at standard atmospheric pressure between about 0°C and 100°C, and is intended for general engineering and educational estimation rather than laboratory-grade precision.
