How coin melt value works
Many older U.S. coins were minted with a fixed percentage of silver, so each coin type has a well-documented Actual Silver Weight (ASW) — the amount of pure silver it contains, regardless of the coin’s face value.
The formula
This calculator multiplies the known ASW per coin (in troy ounces) by how many coins you have, then multiplies that total by the current silver spot price to estimate the total melt value.
This is a raw melt-value estimate for general reference. Collectible or numismatic value can push a coin’s actual worth well above its melt value, and dealers typically pay somewhat less than melt value on bulk silver. Use a current spot price for accuracy.
