Resistors in series
When resistors are connected end-to-end in a single path, they are in series, and the same current flows through each one. This is the simplest way to combine resistors and it always increases total resistance.
The formula
Total series resistance is simply the sum: Rtotal = R1 + R2 + R3 + …. Enter up to four resistor values (leave unused ones at 0), and optionally a supply voltage, to also see the resulting circuit current (via Ohm’s Law, I = V / Rtotal) and total power dissipated.
