What this calculator does
A sabbatical or extended career break needs enough savings to cover living expenses with no paycheck coming in. This calculator compares what you’ll need against what you’re on track to have saved by the time your break starts.
How it’s calculated
Total needed is simply your monthly expenses multiplied by how many months you’ll be away. Projected savings adds your current savings to whatever you’ll save each month between now and your start date. The difference tells you whether you’re on track (a surplus) or need to save more or shorten the break (a shortfall), and the runway figure shows how many months your projected savings would actually cover.
