How roulette payouts work

Roulette bets pay out at fixed odds depending on how many numbers the bet covers, regardless of which wheel is used. A single-number ‘straight up’ bet pays the most (35 to 1) because it’s the least likely to win, while an even-money bet like red/black pays only 1 to 1.

The formulas used

Winnings = Bet Amount × Payout Odds. Probability of Winning = Numbers Covered / Total Wheel Slots (37 for European wheels with a single zero, 38 for American wheels with a double zero). House Edge is derived from comparing the true odds of winning to the payout odds offered, which is where the casino’s built-in mathematical advantage comes from.

This calculator is for general entertainment and educational purposes only. Roulette outcomes are random, past spins do not affect future ones, and the house edge means the game is not designed to be profitable for players over time.
