What this Roth IRA calculator does

A Roth IRA is funded with after-tax dollars, and qualified withdrawals in retirement are generally tax-free. This calculator projects how your Roth IRA balance could grow by compounding your existing balance and annual contributions at your expected rate of return, from your current age to your planned retirement age.

How the projection works

Each year, your balance is increased by your expected annual return and then your annual contribution is added. Repeating this year by year until retirement produces an estimated final balance, along with a breakdown of how much came from contributions versus investment growth.

  • Roth IRA contribution limits and income eligibility rules are set annually by the IRS and are not applied automatically by this tool.
  • Tax treatment of withdrawals depends on your specific situation and current tax law.

This tool is for general planning and educational purposes only and is not tax or financial advice.
