What Is Revenue?

Revenue is the total amount of money a business brings in from selling goods or services, before subtracting any costs or expenses. It’s often called the “top line” because it appears first on an income statement.

The Formula

Revenue = Units Sold × Price per Unit. This calculator also lets you add recurring customer revenue (customers × average revenue per customer) so subscription or repeat-business income is combined into one total.

• Revenue is not the same as profit — it doesn’t account for costs of goods, operating expenses, or taxes.
