Piston Force from Pressure and Bore
Hydraulic and pneumatic piston force follows directly from Pascal’s principle: F = P × A, where P is the system pressure and A is the piston’s cross-sectional (bore) area. For a circular bore, A = π(d/2)2.
Because area scales with the square of diameter, a modest increase in bore diameter produces a much larger increase in output force at the same pressure. This is why hydraulic systems can generate enormous forces from relatively compact cylinders using high pressure and adequate bore size.
