Pig Latin Translator

Pick a word and see it converted into Pig Latin using the standard consonant-shift and vowel-suffix rules.

What is Pig Latin?

Pig Latin is a playful, informal word game played in English where words are altered following a simple, consistent set of rules. It isn’t a real language, but a fun way to disguise or reshape words while keeping them recognizable.

The rules this translator uses

If a word starts with a vowel (a, e, i, o, u), the translator simply adds “way” (or “ay”, depending on which style you pick) to the end of the word. If a word starts with one or more consonants, all consonant letters before the first vowel are moved from the front of the word to the end, and “ay” is added after them — for example, “strong” becomes “ongstray” because “str” moves to the back.

  • Vowel start: apple → appleway
  • Consonant start: hello → ellohay

This tool is for entertainment and educational purposes, such as learning about word patterns and playing word games; some Pig Latin variants handle letters like “y” or “qu” slightly differently, so results may vary from other Pig Latin generators.
