How percentage discounts work

A percentage discount reduces a price by a set share of its original value. It is one of the most common ways retailers advertise sales, from “20% off” tags to seasonal clearance events.

The formula

Savings = Original Price ร— (Discount% รท 100), and Sale Price = Original Price โˆ’ Savings. For example, a $100 item at 20% off saves you $20, for a final price of $80.

Enter the original price and discount percentage above to see your savings and final price instantly. This tool is for general shopping and budgeting use; always confirm the final price at checkout, as taxes and additional fees are not included.
