What is net worth?
Net worth is a snapshot of your overall financial position: everything you own (assets) minus everything you owe (liabilities). It’s one of the simplest and most useful numbers for tracking personal financial progress over time.
How this calculator works
The formula is: Net Worth = Total Assets – Total Liabilities. Assets typically include cash, bank balances, investment and retirement accounts, real estate, and vehicles. Liabilities typically include mortgages, auto loans, student loans, and credit card balances. This calculator also shows your debt-to-asset ratio, which indicates what portion of your assets are financed by debt.
- A positive net worth means your assets exceed your debts; a negative net worth means the opposite.
- Tracking net worth over months and years, rather than as a single snapshot, is usually more useful for judging financial progress.
This calculator is for general educational and planning purposes only and is not financial advice.
