Month-Over-Month Calculator
Quickly calculate the month-over-month (MoM) percentage change between two values, such as revenue, users, or expenses.
How Month-Over-Month (MoM) Growth Is Calculated
Month-over-month growth measures how much a value — like revenue, website traffic, or expenses — has changed from one month to the next. It’s one of the most common short-term trend metrics in business reporting.
The formula is: MoM % Change = (Current Month Value – Previous Month Value) / |Previous Month Value| x 100. A positive result means growth; a negative result means decline.
- Use consistent units and time periods for both values (e.g. calendar month totals) for a meaningful comparison.
- MoM figures can be noisy for seasonal businesses — a single month’s swing may not indicate a long-term trend, which is why many analysts also track year-over-year (YoY) and rolling averages alongside MoM.
