The metal roof cost calculator estimates the actual sloped roofing area and total installed cost of a metal roof, based on your building’s flat footprint and roof pitch.
The formula
A sloped roof has more surface area than the building’s flat footprint. The calculator finds a pitch multiplier of sqrt(1 + (pitch/12)²) — for example, a 4/12 pitch gives a multiplier of about 1.054 — and multiplies it by the footprint area to get actual roof area. A waste allowance (typically 10%, more for complex roofs with hips and valleys) is added, and the total is multiplied by your price per square foot to estimate installed cost.
Metal roofing installed costs vary widely by material (steel, aluminum, copper), panel style, and region, commonly ranging from about $5 to $14+ per square foot. Get a local contractor quote for an exact price.
