What this calculator does
This tool projects the total cost of long term care — such as home care, assisted living, or a nursing facility — by applying an annual inflation rate to today’s care costs across the number of years care is expected to be needed.
How the math works
The calculator treats each year’s care cost as growing by your chosen inflation rate over the previous year, then adds up every year’s cost using the standard growing-annuity sum formula. If you have savings already earmarked for care, it subtracts that from the projected total to estimate any funding shortfall.
