How jeans sizing works
Men’s and unisex jeans are most often labeled directly by waist circumference in inches, while women’s jeans commonly use a separate numeric scale (like 0-24) that doesn’t map to inches in an obvious way, and European sizing uses centimeter-based numbers.
The formula
This calculator takes your waist measurement in inches as the direct US inch size, estimates a women’s US numeric size using the common approximation Size ≈ (Waist in inches − 25) × 2, and estimates an EU size by converting your waist to centimeters and adding a standard offset used by many European brands.
Jeans sizing varies significantly between brands, cuts (skinny, straight, relaxed), and rise, so treat these as starting points rather than exact matches — always check a specific brand’s size chart when possible. For general reference purposes only.
