What this calculator does

When inductors are connected in parallel (with no magnetic coupling between them), the total inductance is always lower than the smallest individual inductor, similar to resistors in parallel.

The formula used

For inductors in parallel, 1/Ltotal = 1/L1 + 1/L2 + 1/L3 and so on. Enter your inductor values (leave any you don’t need at zero) and the calculator combines them using this reciprocal-sum rule.

This calculation assumes the inductors are far enough apart, or oriented so that they don’t magnetically couple with each other; coupled inductors need a more advanced mutual-inductance formula. This tool is for general electronics planning and education.
