Inductive Reactance

Inductive reactance is the opposition an inductor presents to alternating current, arising from the coil’s tendency to resist changes in current. It’s calculated as XL = 2πfL, where f is the AC frequency and L is the inductance.

Unlike resistance, inductive reactance depends on frequency — it rises linearly with frequency, meaning inductors block high-frequency signals more than low-frequency ones (the opposite behavior of capacitive reactance). This makes inductors useful for filtering and impedance matching in AC and RF circuits.
