What this calculator does
This tool calculates the energy of an electron occupying a given principal quantum level (n) in a hydrogen atom, based on the Bohr model of the atom.
The formula
The energy of level n is given by En = -13.6 eV / n², where 13.6 eV is the ionization energy of hydrogen from its ground state (n=1). The negative sign shows the electron is bound to the nucleus. As n increases, the energy approaches zero, meaning the electron becomes less tightly bound. The orbital radius scales with n² times the Bohr radius (about 0.0529 nm).
