CGS System of Units Converter

Convert common physical quantities between the CGS (centimetre-gram-second) system and SI units.

What the CGS system is

The CGS (centimetre-gram-second) system is an older metric system that measures length in centimetres, mass in grams, and time in seconds, with derived units like the dyne (force), erg (energy), and barye (pressure). Modern science mostly uses the SI (metre-kilogram-second) system, but CGS units still appear in some physics, chemistry, and older engineering references.

How the conversion works

Pick the quantity you want to convert and the direction (CGS to SI, or SI to CGS). The calculator multiplies or divides your value by the fixed conversion factor for that quantity — for example, 1 dyne equals exactly 0.00001 newtons, and 1 erg equals exactly 0.0000001 joules.
