What This Calculator Does
This tool converts a song’s tempo, measured in beats per minute (BPM), into the exact millisecond duration of common note values. Musicians and audio engineers use these figures to sync delay pedals, echo effects, LFO rates, and other tempo-based effects to a track.
The Formula
A quarter note’s duration in milliseconds is calculated as 60,000 / BPM, since there are 60,000 milliseconds in a minute and a quarter note represents one beat in standard 4/4 time. Every other note value is a simple multiple or fraction of that number: a half note is double the quarter note, an eighth note is half of it, and a dotted eighth note is one and a half times an eighth note.

- Triplet and other non-standard subdivisions follow different ratios not covered here.
