What angular momentum measures
Angular momentum describes the quantity of rotational motion an object has around a fixed point or axis. For a point mass moving in a circle, it is calculated as L = m·v·r, where m is mass, v is tangential (linear) velocity, and r is the radius of the circular path.

Enter the mass of the object, its tangential velocity, and the radius of its circular path. The calculator multiplies these three values together to give the angular momentum in kilogram-meters squared per second, assuming the velocity is perpendicular to the radius.
This formula applies to a point mass or an object whose mass can be treated as concentrated at one radius; for extended rigid bodies, angular momentum is instead found using L = Iω with the object’s moment of inertia. For general physics education purposes.
