The benefits of dog walking
Regular dog walks are a simple, low-impact way to add physical activity to your day, benefiting both you and your dog through improved cardiovascular health, weight management, and mental well-being.
How the estimate works
This calculator uses MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) values, a standard exercise science measure of energy expenditure, for different walking paces: about 2.8 METs for a leisurely stroll, 3.5 for a moderate pace, and 4.5 for a brisk walk. Calories burned are calculated as MET x body weight (kg) x duration (hours). Step counts are estimated using typical step-rate averages for each pace.
Actual calorie burn varies by individual fitness, terrain, and weather. This tool provides general estimates for educational and motivational purposes and is not a substitute for a fitness tracker or professional health guidance.
