What this calculator does

The Delay and Reverb Calculator converts your track’s tempo (BPM) and a chosen note division into exact millisecond values for setting tempo-synced delay and reverb effects in a DAW or hardware unit.

How the calculation works

The length of one quarter note in milliseconds is 60,000 divided by the BPM (since there are 60,000 milliseconds in a minute). Any other note division is a fixed multiple of that quarter note: an eighth note is half as long, a dotted eighth is 1.5 times an eighth, and a triplet eighth is two-thirds of a quarter note. Delay time and reverb decay time are both calculated this way, and the delay rate in Hz is simply 1000 divided by the delay time in milliseconds, useful for syncing LFOs.

The suggested pre-delay (25% of the delay time) is a common audio-engineering starting point, not a fixed rule — adjust it by ear. This tool is for general music production planning and education.
