What cyclotron frequency is

A charged particle moving perpendicular to a uniform magnetic field travels in a circular path. The rate at which it completes that circle — independent of its speed or the radius of the circle — is called the cyclotron frequency, a key concept in particle accelerators and plasma physics.

The formula

The cyclotron frequency is f = |q|B / (2πm), where q is the particle’s charge, B is the magnetic field strength, and m is the particle’s mass. The corresponding angular frequency is ω = |q|B / m.
