Conductivity and resistivity

Electrical conductivity and resistivity describe the same material property from opposite angles: conductivity measures how easily a material carries current, while resistivity measures how strongly it resists it.

The formula

The two are exact reciprocals: ρ = 1 ÷ σ, where σ is conductivity in siemens per meter (S/m) and ρ is resistivity in ohm-meters (Ω·m). The calculator also shows resistivity in the commonly used micro-ohm-centimeter and ohm-mm²/m units seen on wire and material datasheets.

Both values are temperature-dependent for real materials (resistivity typically rises with temperature for metals), so datasheet values are usually specified at a reference temperature like 20°C. This calculator is for general electrical engineering education.
