🌱 CO2 Grow Room Volume Calculator
Enter your grow room dimensions and current and target CO2 levels to find the room’s volume and how much CO2 gas you need to add to reach your target concentration.
How this calculator works
This calculator first finds your grow room’s volume by multiplying length, width, and height. It then applies the standard dilution formula used for CO2 enrichment: the volume of pure CO2 gas needed equals the room volume multiplied by the desired increase in concentration, expressed as a fraction of one million parts (ppm).
The formula is: CO2 volume (L) = Room volume (L) × (target ppm – current ppm) / 1,000,000. The calculator also converts that gas volume into an approximate mass in grams using CO2’s density at typical room temperature, about 1.83 grams per liter, which is useful when sizing a CO2 tank, regulator, or burst-controller setting.
Outdoor ambient CO2 is around 400-420 ppm, while many enclosed grow spaces target roughly 1,200-1,500 ppm during active growth to support photosynthesis, though optimal targets vary by plant and lighting setup.
This tool is for general planning and educational purposes. Always follow equipment manufacturer guidance and ensure adequate ventilation and CO2 monitoring, since elevated CO2 levels can be hazardous to people and pets in an enclosed space.
