What this calculator does

The CO2 Grow Room Calculator estimates how much carbon dioxide gas needs to be added to an enclosed grow space to raise its concentration from a current level to a target level, both measured in parts per million (ppm).

How the formula works

The calculator first finds the room’s air volume (length ร— width ร— height), then multiplies that volume by the fractional increase needed: CO2 volume = room volume ร— (target ppm โˆ’ current ppm) รท 1,000,000. This is converted to liters and to an approximate weight in pounds using the density of CO2 gas at standard conditions (about 8.74 cubic feet per pound).

  • Ambient outdoor air is typically around 400-420 ppm CO2
  • Many enriched grow rooms target 1,000-1,500 ppm during the light cycle

A note on accuracy

This is a simplified sealed-room estimate for general planning purposes; it doesn’t account for air leakage, ventilation, plant CO2 uptake over time, or safety ventilation requirements — CO2 levels above roughly 5,000 ppm can be unsafe for people, so always ventilate before entering an enriched space.
