What is the cash flow to debt ratio?

The cash flow to debt ratio is a solvency metric that measures how well a company’s operating cash flow can cover its total debt obligations. A higher ratio suggests a stronger ability to pay down debt from ongoing operations.

The formula

Cash Flow to Debt Ratio = Operating Cash Flow / Total Debt. Expressed as a percentage, it shows what portion of total debt could theoretically be repaid using one year’s operating cash flow; its inverse gives a rough estimate of years needed to fully pay off debt at the current cash flow rate.

This calculator is for general financial education and analysis practice, not investment or credit advice. Lenders and analysts typically consider this ratio alongside other solvency and liquidity measures.
