❤️ Cardiac Index Calculator
Calculate cardiac output and cardiac index from heart rate, stroke volume, and body surface area.
What is cardiac index
Cardiac index is a measure of the heart’s pumping performance adjusted for body size, making it easier to compare heart function across people of different sizes than raw cardiac output alone.
How it’s calculated
Cardiac output is first found by multiplying heart rate by stroke volume (the amount of blood pumped per heartbeat), then converted to liters per minute. Cardiac index is that cardiac output divided by body surface area (BSA): Cardiac Index = Cardiac Output ÷ BSA. A normal resting cardiac index for adults is typically cited as roughly 2.5 to 4.0 L/min/m².
