What BMR means

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body burns at complete rest just to keep vital functions running, such as breathing, circulation, and cell repair. It accounts for the majority of most people’s daily calorie burn.

The Mifflin-St Jeor equation

This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, widely regarded as one of the most accurate BMR formulas for the general population: BMR = 10 x weight(kg) + 6.25 x height(cm) – 5 x age(years) + 5 for men, or -161 for women. Multiplying BMR by an activity factor estimates your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE), the calories you burn including movement and exercise.
