Bedridden Patient Height Calculator
Estimate a person’s standing height from a knee height measurement when they cannot stand, using the widely used Chumlea equations.
Why estimate height from knee height
When a patient is bedridden, has severe spinal curvature, or cannot stand upright, standard standing-height measurement is not possible. Knee height is a stable skeletal measurement that correlates strongly with overall stature, so clinicians use it to estimate height for nutritional assessments and other calculations that require a height value.
The formula used
This calculator uses the Chumlea equations, a well-established set of regression formulas developed from large population studies, which estimate height from knee height and age, with separate equations for men and women.
