What This Calculator Does

For a simply supported beam (resting on two end supports) carrying a uniformly distributed load along its full length, this tool estimates the maximum bending moment, maximum shear force, and approximate mid-span deflection.

The Formulas

For a uniformly distributed load w over span L: maximum bending moment = wL²/8, occurring at mid-span, and maximum shear force = wL/2, occurring at the supports. Deflection is estimated with the standard formula δ = 5wL⁴ / (384EI), using the beam’s modulus of elasticity (E) and moment of inertia (I).

These are standard structural engineering formulas for a simple, uniformly loaded beam and are provided for general planning and educational purposes only. Real beams may have different support conditions, point loads, or load combinations — always have final structural designs reviewed and stamped by a licensed structural engineer.
