How Appliance Depreciation Is Calculated

This calculator uses the straight-line depreciation method, the simplest and most common way to estimate how an item loses value over time. It spreads the total loss in value evenly across the appliance’s expected useful life.

The formula is: Annual Depreciation = (Purchase Price – Salvage Value) / Useful Life. Multiplying that by the appliance’s age gives the total depreciation so far, which is subtracted from the original price to estimate current value.

This is a general estimate for personal budgeting, insurance claims, or resale planning purposes — actual market value can vary based on condition, brand, and demand.
