What this calculator does
The antipode of a location is the point exactly opposite it on the globe — if you drilled straight through the center of the Earth from your location, you would emerge at its antipode.
How the calculation works
The antipodal latitude is simply the negative of the original latitude (a point at 40°N has its antipode at 40°S). The antipodal longitude is found by shifting the original longitude by 180 degrees, wrapping around so the result stays within -180° to 180°.
Any point and its antipode are always separated by exactly half of Earth’s circumference — about 20,015 km (12,437 mi) along a great-circle path — since that distance depends only on the Earth’s radius, not on the specific location.
