What is Actual Cash Value?

Actual Cash Value (ACV) is a common method insurers use to value damaged or stolen property. It’s calculated by taking the cost to replace an item with a new one and subtracting depreciation based on the item’s age and expected useful life.

How this calculator works

Enter the replacement cost of the item when new, its current age, and its expected useful life. The calculator applies straight-line depreciation over that useful life (capped so the item can’t depreciate below zero) and subtracts it from the replacement cost to estimate ACV.

Actual insurance settlements can use different depreciation schedules and may include additional factors. This tool provides a general estimate only, not an insurance quote or claim valuation.
