What is year over year growth?
Year over year (YoY) growth compares a metric, such as revenue, users, or sales, in the current period to the same period one year earlier. It’s a standard way to measure growth while automatically controlling for seasonal effects, since you’re always comparing the same time of year.
The formula
YoY Growth % = (Current Value – Prior Year Value) / |Prior Year Value| × 100. A positive result means growth compared to last year; a negative result means a decline.
