What does 0-60 mph measure?
The ‘0-60 time’ is how many seconds a vehicle takes to accelerate from a standstill to 60 mph. It’s a common shorthand for straight-line acceleration performance, though it doesn’t capture handling, braking, or top speed.
How this calculator works
This tool converts your 0-60 time into average acceleration, expressed in g-force (multiples of Earth’s gravity) as well as feet and meters per second squared, using Acceleration = Change in Speed ÷ Time. It also estimates a quarter-mile time using a widely cited empirical approximation (ET ≈ 5.825 × t0.667), which correlates reasonably well with real-world data for typical passenger vehicles.
Real acceleration is not perfectly linear — most cars accelerate faster at low speed and taper off — so this is an average, not an instant-by-instant figure. The quarter-mile estimate is approximate and will vary with gearing, tires, and drivetrain.
