What this calculator does

Skewness measures the asymmetry of a dataset’s distribution. A skewness near zero suggests a roughly symmetric distribution, a positive value indicates a longer tail toward higher values, and a negative value indicates a longer tail toward lower values.

How the calculation works

The calculator computes the Fisher-Pearson coefficient of skewness, g1 = m3 / m2^1.5, where m2 and m3 are the second and third moments of the data about its mean (the average squared and cubed deviations from the mean). It also reports the sample-adjusted skewness G1, which applies a small correction based on sample size to reduce bias, matching the convention used by many statistics packages.
