What this calculator does

Self-rising flour is simply all-purpose flour with baking powder and salt already mixed in. The standard substitution ratio is 1.5 teaspoons of baking powder and 0.25 teaspoons of salt for every cup of all-purpose flour. This calculator multiplies those amounts by however much flour your recipe needs.

Whisk the baking powder and salt evenly into the flour before using it, since uneven mixing can cause uneven rising in baked goods. This is a general kitchen substitution guideline, not a precise chemical formulation, so minor adjustments to taste are normal.
