What SCFM means
Standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) expresses airflow normalized to standard reference conditions (typically 14.7 psia and 60°F), allowing fair comparison of compressed air or gas flow measurements taken under different actual conditions.
The formula
SCFM = ACFM × (Pactual/Pstandard) × (Tstandard/Tactual), where ACFM is the actual flow rate at actual conditions, and pressures and temperatures (in absolute units — psia and Rankine) are used to correct for the difference from standard reference conditions.
This is the standard compressed-air industry correction formula; note that different standards bodies (CAGI, ASME, ISO) define slightly different reference conditions, so always confirm which standard applies to your application.
