What this calculator estimates
This tool estimates a vehicle’s quarter-mile (402 m) elapsed time and trap speed based on its weight and horsepower, using well-known empirical drag racing formulas.
The formula
Elapsed time (seconds) = 5.825 × (weight / horsepower)1/3, and trap speed (mph) = 234 × (horsepower / weight)1/3, where weight is in pounds and horsepower is at the wheels or engine (results are most accurate for wheel horsepower).
These are widely used empirical approximations popular in drag racing and automotive circles; actual performance depends heavily on gearing, tires, launch technique, and aerodynamics, so real-world results will vary from this estimate.
