What Pearson correlation measures

The Pearson correlation coefficient (r) measures the strength and direction of a straight-line relationship between two numeric variables. It ranges from -1 (a perfect negative relationship) to +1 (a perfect positive relationship), with 0 meaning no linear relationship at all.

How this calculator works

Enter at least three paired x and y values. The calculator applies the standard Pearson formula to those pairs to compute r, then squares it to get r-squared (the proportion of variance in one variable explained by the other). It also computes a t-statistic you can use to test whether the correlation is statistically significant, based on your sample size.

Correlation only captures straight-line relationships and does not imply that one variable causes the other. This tool is for general educational and planning purposes.
