mmol/L

Why the conversion factor changes by substance

Lab results can be reported in millimoles per liter (mmol/L) or milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) depending on the country and lab. Converting between them isn’t a single universal number — it depends on the molecular weight of the substance being measured, so glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, and urea each use a different multiplier.

The formulas used

  • Glucose: mg/dL = mmol/L × 18.0182
  • Cholesterol (total, HDL, LDL): mg/dL = mmol/L × 38.67
  • Triglycerides: mg/dL = mmol/L × 88.57
  • Urea / BUN: mg/dL = mmol/L × 2.8

Choose the substance that matches your lab report, enter the mmol/L value, and the calculator applies the correct factor. This tool is for general educational and reference purposes and does not interpret whether a result is within a healthy range — always review lab results with a qualified healthcare provider.
