What is markup?

Markup is the amount added to the cost of a product to arrive at its selling price, expressed as a percentage of that cost. It is the classic way retailers and wholesalers set prices: decide how much profit you want relative to cost, then apply it.

The formula

Selling Price = Cost ร— (1 + Markup% รท 100). For example, a $40 cost with a 60% markup adds $24 of profit, giving a $64 selling price.

Enter your cost and desired markup percentage above to get the selling price, the profit per unit, and the resulting profit margin. This tool is for general business planning and education, not formal accounting or tax advice.
