What this markup calculator does
Markup is the percentage added on top of your cost to set a selling price. This calculator takes your cost price and desired markup percentage and returns the resulting selling price, profit amount, and the equivalent profit margin percentage.
How it’s calculated
Profit is your cost multiplied by the markup percentage, and the selling price is cost plus that profit. Because margin and markup measure profit against different bases (selling price versus cost), the equivalent margin percentage shown here will always be a bit lower than the markup percentage you entered.
- A 50% markup, for example, always works out to a 33.3% margin, not 50%.
- This calculator does not include taxes, shipping, or other business overhead in the price.
