How Lumens Convert to Watts
Lumens measure actual brightness, while watts measure power consumption — they aren’t the same thing, and the relationship between them (called luminous efficacy) depends entirely on the bulb technology.
The formula is: Watts = Lumens / Efficacy (lumens per watt). LEDs are far more efficient than old incandescent bulbs, producing the same brightness for a fraction of the power, which is why a 9W LED can replace a 60W incandescent bulb.
Efficacy values are typical industry averages — exact figures vary by manufacturer and specific product, so check the bulb’s packaging for its actual lumen and wattage rating.
