What hydraulic pressure is
Hydraulic (hydrostatic) pressure is the pressure exerted by a fluid at rest due to the weight of the fluid above a given point. It increases linearly with depth and depends only on the fluid’s density, the local gravity, and the depth – not on the shape or volume of the container.
The formula
Gauge pressure (pressure above atmospheric) is calculated as P = ρ·g·h, where ρ is fluid density, g is gravitational acceleration, and h is depth. Absolute pressure adds standard atmospheric pressure (101,325 Pa) to the gauge value: P_abs = P + P_atm.
